HDTV... The Future for Producers

Welcome to the Canadian Digital Television (CDTV) Producer's web site. This new on-line resource has been created specifically for you, the Canadian Television Producer, to help you make the all important and timely transition to HDTV.

The Broadcast world is changing and so must you! HDTV is the new world standard - the time to make the change is now!

CDTV is the not-for-profit Canadian television industry organization dedicated to providing expert information on HDTV implementation in Canada. CDTV members include broadcasters, pay & specialty networks, cable, satellite, manufacturers, educational institutions, industry-related associations and production companies. Government representatives as well as key retailers have also provided input and contributed to the work of the association.

Launched in May 1998, Canadian Digital Television (CDTV) was created to guide the orderly migration to advanced digital television services by directing research and testing, identifying and advising on policy, regulation and marketplace issues and developing and monitoring the DTV transition plan for the industry. In 2005 a special committee was formed to provide more assistance and information to Canadian producers to help speed the transition to Digital High Definition Formats.

We have assembled this web site  because CDTV and its members recognize that this transition is critical, and that the time for producers to start working in HD in right now!

Many misconceptions and problems constantly arise about High Definition production and broadcasting in this country. This site is designed to dispel these myths by providing you with accurate information to help and encourage you in making the transition. We also realize that no other central Canadian resource exists to answer these important questions in Canada.

We encourage you to read, watch and use this site (and the consumer site) to its full potential.  Read what people have to say and do your own homework. You can also contribute by asking and answering questions in the Forum.

The transition to HD formats need not be difficult. Let’s make Canada a leader in Worldwide HD production.
